Peggy Sue (Carter) Hill

Peggy passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on August 20, 2026 at the age of 83. She was born November 29, 1942 to Walter Phoenix Carter and Agnes Pauline Hunter Carter as the youngest and the last remaining of eight children.

She met the love of her life Douglas Hill in Childress, Texas and they were married in 1960 in Childress and celebrated 58 years of marriage before his passing in 2018. She spent most of her adult life in Amarillo, Texas as a meticulous housewife and wonderful mother to Cheryl and Susan. She and Doug were charter members of Oasis Southwest Baptist Church for 53 years.

Peggy lived her life in service to her family and her church family, it never mattered what the activity was, she was whole-heartedly ready and willing to participate with gusto. She was an avid and beautiful seamstress that made all of Cheryl and Susan’s clothing and anybody else that needed clothed. She also loved working in her yard especially with her rosebushes. Doug and Peggy spent many years mentoring newly married couples at Oasis which allowed spiritual growth in young marriages. She always started her day with her bible open and savoring the Word of God. Peggy was always the one to call when the church needed anything - wedding and baby showers, funeral meals, fundraising, and mentoring as well as many other things. She also served her community well by volunteering at NWTH. Peggy offered a stabilizing presence in every group she was in.

She was precious to her ‘pew’ family and her Sunday school class. She was an amazing cook that provided fantastic feasts for her family every Sunday after church. Peggy had a sweet tooth and a Pringles habit that was not a well-kept secret. She was a patient, positive, pleasant, easy-going, and happy woman who was a joy to be around.

Peggy is preceded in death by her husband Doug, her parents, her daughter Cheryl Robertson, and her siblings Marion Lee (Chick) Carter, Billy T. Carter, Betty Jane Carter, Rita Joyce Carter, Paul Hunter Carter, John Arthur Carter, and Melvin Mack (Mickey) Carter.

She is survived by her daughter Susan (Don) Casper of Amarillo, Texas, her three grandchildren, Berkley Robertson of Amarillo, Cole Casper of Melbourne, Australia, and Carter Casper of Carrollton, Texas, and her constant fur-baby companion Bryn, and many nieces and nephews and friends.

A celebration service will be held on September 20, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Oasis Southwest Baptist Church at 8201 Canyon Dr, Amarillo, Texas. In lieu of flowers the family has asked for memorials to be made to Oasis Southwest Baptist Church.
