Peggy Jean Carthel, 62, of Amarillo, went to her eternal resting place on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
Peggy was born on August 11, 1963 in Amarillo, Texas, where she was raised by Jim and Rachel Lee.
She spent over 20 years at Wolfe Office Machines, where she truly loved her job and the people she worked alongside. She was known as a dedicated, hard worker who was well liked by everyone, customers and coworkers alike.
Peggy was the type of person who never met a stranger. She had a warmth about her that often turned chance encounters into lasting friendships. She connected with others effortlessly and will be remembered for her fun-loving, rock and roll spirit, her one of a kind laugh, and her heart of gold.
Helping others came naturally to Peggy. Even when she had little, she never hesitated to give what she could to those in need. She was equally generous with her spirit, offering encouragement, kindness, and support to others, especially during hard times.
Her kindness extended to animals as well. She was a lifelong cat lover and cared for many over the years, including the strays around the office, always making sure they were fed and looked after.
Of all her roles in life, Peggy most loved being a mother. She cherished her children, never missing their school activities, sports, or milestones. She poured her heart into caring for her children and, later in life, took great pride in being able to care for her mother. Beyond her immediate family, Peggy also created a circle of chosen family throughout her life, where her nurturing spirit and kindness left a lasting impact.
Peggy’s faith in Jesus was unwavering. It sustained her through difficult times and filled her with peace, courage, and hope. She drew strength from prayer and reading her Bible, and she found joy in sharing God’s love with others.
She is preceded in death by her son, Ted Hubbard; her mother, Rachel Lee; her brothers, Roger Miller and David Lee; and her sister, Mandy Gregory.
Peggy is survived by her father, Jim Lee of Amarillo; her daughter, Jessica Hubbard and husband Henrico Cillie of Amarillo; her brother, Gordon Miller and wife Ramona of Amarillo; her sister, Valerie Juarez and husband Rudy of Oklahoma. Other survivors include nieces, nephews, other extended family, her chosen family, and especially her beloved cat, Theo.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, September 12, 2025, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Wayne Griffin officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
