Amarillo

Peggy Dawson, beloved wife, mom, grand mommy, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at The Legacy at Townsquare, where she had made her home in recent years and touched the lives of countless residents and staff with her kind, gentle, and spunky spirit.

Peggy was born on December 6, 1935, in Allison, TX, to Mary and Clarence Jones. From an early age, her warmth and quiet strength were evident to everyone who knew her. In 1967, she earned her teaching certificate from West Texas A&M University, beginning a career in education that would span more than three decades. Peggy spent 30 years in the classroom, retiring in 1997 – though her love for teaching never waned. She continued as a substitute teacher for another 12 years, sharing her wisdom and compassion with new generations of students.

On July 12, 1957, Peggy married her college sweetheart, Fred Dawson. Together, they raised three daughters, building a life grounded in faith, love, and service. Peggy’s devotion to her Christian faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Throughout her years, she was an active member of Hillside Christian Church and Bible Study Fellowship, and her quiet grace and gentle faith inspired everyone around her.

Peggy’s legacy is found not just in the lives she shaped as an educator, but also in the deep connections she formed with friends, neighbors, and caregivers at The Legacy. Her warmth, empathy, and humility left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her soft heart, and her lifelong dedication to lifting others up with kindness.
