In Loving Memory of R.E. “Woody” Melton

R.E. “Woody” Melton, born November 12, 1935, passed away peacefully on August 22 and went to be with God. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Family was the most important part of Woody’s life, and he treasured every moment spent with the people he loved.

While attending West Texas University, Woody met the love of his life, Betty Jean Martin. The two married and became each other’s world, sharing a love and devotion that remained at the heart of their family throughout their years together.

Woody was a hardworking and proud business owner who owned and operated A-1 Body Shop. He took great pride in his work and in providing for his family. His dedication, craftsmanship, and strong work ethic were a reflection of the man he was—dependable, hardworking, and committed to doing his best.

Yet, his greatest joy was found in the people around him. A true social butterfly with a warm and welcoming personality, Woody never met a stranger. He loved Amarillo and the people who called it home forming friendships and connections that meant so much to him. To know him was to love him.

He enjoyed bargain shopping, sharing meals with friends, and spending time with the people who mattered most. Woody had a special way of making others feel welcome, valued, and cared for. Those who knew him will remember his generous heart, laughter, strong work ethic, and deep devotion to his family and friends.

Woody was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Jean; his son, Paul; his parents; his sister, Vianna Pace; and his brother, Jim Melton.

He leaves behind his daughter, Lisa Hinojosa; his grandchildren, Sylvia Melton, Marilyn Brekke, and Thomas Hinojosa; five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who brought him immense joy and represent his lasting legacy of love.

Woody’s greatest accomplishment was never his business or his work, but the family he loved so dearly and the lives he touched along the way. His memory will live on in the hearts of his daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. The family wishes to give a special thanks to Sylvia, Jamye, Marty, neighbor Josh, and Tina Morrison for their consistent care and attention over the last several years.

He was deeply loved, will be greatly missed, and will never be forgotten.

Rest peacefully, Woody. You are now home in the loving arms of God..
