Richard Contreras, 79, of Amarillo, died Monday, July 6, 2026.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, July 23, 2026 in Trinity Fellowship Church, 5000 Hollywood Rd with Jimmy Witcher officiating.

Richard "Couldn't afford a middle-name" Contreras, born January 5, 1947, in Sabinal, Texas, passed away leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, service, and generosity. He was the beloved son of Paul and Lupe Contreras.

Richard earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a minor in English from West Texas State University. He began his career teaching mathematics in Westbrook, Texas, before joining Mason & Hanger/Pantex in 1974, where he worked for 38 years until his retirement in 2012.

A devoted Christian, Richard was known for his servant's heart and love for others. He was a skilled woodworker who generously shared his talents, crafting and donating wooden benches, mirrors, and other handcrafted treasures. He also enjoyed yard work, botany, and caring for the things entrusted to him, including being a devoted steward to his parents.

Above all, Richard cherished his family. He found great joy in spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family, whether cheering from the stands at soccer games, watching loved ones take the marching field, or gathering for a competitive late-night game of Jenga. He was the proud father of Dana, Lori, Melissa, Kevin, Jason, and David; a beloved "son at heart," Clark Boland; and a cherished "daughter at heart," Little Debbie.

Richard will be remembered for his steadfast faith, quiet generosity, love of family, and unwavering support of those he loved. He will also be remembered—much to the amusement of his family—for his enduring loyalty to the Dallas Cowboys.

The legacy he built in wood, faith, and family will endure for generations.
