Robert Dwayne Brown

August 15, 1937 — September 4, 2024

Robert Dwayne Brown passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas. He was 87 years old.

Dwayne was born in Graham, Texas on August 15, 1937, to Earle Robert and Alice Jewell Brown and raised in Graham with his younger brother Kenneth and sister Gwen. He graduated from Graham High School in 1955. While growing up he developed a passion for bird hunting and remote-controlled airplanes. He attended Abilene Christian College but left before completing his degree. He moved from Graham to the DFW area where he worked for Texas Instruments on infrared detectors for mapping systems for the government. He was reacquainted with Nancy Arrington, who he met in 1960 at Abilene Christian College, in 1966 in Dallas. After a fast engagement they were married on June 2, 1967, in Freeport Texas. He returned to Abilene, completing his degree in Chemistry and then he and Nancy moved back to DFW to continue his career with Texas Instruments. Lawrence (Larry) and Lewis were born in 1971 and 1972, respectively. While living in Richardson, he continued to pursue hunting and R/C airplanes and opened a repair business for R/C radios. The family moved to Winter Springs, Florida in 1981 where He was employed by Lockheed Martin (formerly Martin Marietta). He continued his work on infrared detectors for the remainder of his career, working on projects for the U.S. Army’s Apache helicopter and navigation pods for U.S. Air Force fighter aircraft among other projects. The family attended South Seminole Church of Christ where he served as a deacon. He continued to enjoy hunting and added fishing into his list of hobbies while in Florida. He picked his guitar back up in Florida and became a proficient player. As his sons grew up, he made it a priority to take them hunting and fishing as often as they wanted to go. Their love of the outdoors and shooting are a result of his devotion. In 1999 he retired from Lockheed Martin and in 2003 he and Nancy moved to Amarillo Texas to be closer to their sons and their families. He was a member of the Bell Avenue Church of Christ where he was an elder for several years. Most of all He loved Jesus and his relationship with Jesus was the most important part of his life. He made sure that his family knew this by how he lived his life. He loved his family and did his best to take care of them and provide for them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Sherron Brown; and sister, Gwendolyn Ruth Brown.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy, of Amarillo, Texas; two sons, Larry (Jenny) and grandchildren Hailey and Calan of Amarillo, and Lewis (Elisa) and grandchildren Britton and Bishop of Amarillo.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, September 9, 2024, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Cled Click of Bell Avenue Church of Christ will officiate.
