Robert was born October 10, 1952, in Okalona, Mississippi to Barbara Harr and Robert Montford. Robert graduated from Amarillo High School in 1970. After graduation Robert joined the Air Force and was stationed at Monkey Mountain, Vietnam. Later he was stationed in Germany and lastly in Watertown, NY. He was proud to be a member of the Armed Forces and could be seen wearing his Vietnam Veteran hat or t shirt on a daily basis. Before retirement in 2018, Robert operated his own photography business for several years while being employed with Times Mirror Cable in Midland Texas and later Cable One in Odessa, Texas for over 20 years.
Robert was also a very invested Ham Radio operator. He enjoyed talking to different people from all over the world. He was the Hamfest Chairman of the Amateur Ham Radio Club in West Texas for 11 years, a role he took great pride in. Robert could carry on a conversation with anyone and would always find something to talk about.
While Robert traveled to several places during the course of his military career, he found Jackie, the love of his life in Watertown, New York. The couple were married in Amarillo, Texas in 1978 where they resided until moving to Odessa, Texas in 1982. Robert and Jackie were married for 42 years until her passing in 2020. Together the couple enjoyed doing everything together. When you saw Robert, Jackie was always by his side.
After Jackie’s passing, Robert always wanted to return to what he called home which was Amarillo, Texas. In September 2024, Robert moved back to Amarillo where he reconnected with lifelong friends and old classmates.
Though Robert’s passing was unexpected, he was “home” where he wanted to be.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jackie, both of his parents, and a sister Rachel.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Nicole (Todd) Shultz, of Rodman, NY, a brother Tom (Deanna) Jordan of Amarillo, TX, 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, and lastly his beloved cats Silver and Blackie.
