Roger Arnold Vartdal

Roger A. Vartdal, 93, passed away on May 7, 2024, in Amarillo, TX. He was born on December 9, 1930, in Minneapolis, MN. 

Memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, TX 79109. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. 

Roger had a vibrant life, with his journey taking him to various cities in the United States. He resided in Minneapolis, MN, Amarillo, TX. Roger was the beloved husband of Mary Vartdal, whom he married on Dec 27, 1976, in Golden Valley, MN. He was also previously married to Betty Straw.

Golf was Roger's passion, and he excelled in the sport. While residing in Golden Valley, Ann., was a member of Golden Valley CC. He also had a deep interest in cars, collecting model cars of vehicles he had owned over the years. Additionally, Roger had a collection of model WW2 planes. He enjoyed driving and had traveled extensively, having been to numerous towns across the country. Everywhere he went, Roger always seemed to encounter someone he knew, a testament to his outgoing and friendly nature.

Roger was a baptized Lutheran and was previously a member of Calvary Luthan Church of Golden Valley. He held cherished memories of his school days at Augsburg College and St. Louis Park High School in 1948, from where he graduated. Roger was the beloved husband of Mary Vartdal, whom he married on Dec 27, 1976, in Golden Valley, MN. He was also previously married to Betty Straw.

Roger was an exceptional individual, known for his many accomplishments and passions. He was the owner/operator of Falconers Cleaners and Mary and Rogers Dayschool. Roger loved having fun with his kids and adopted daycare family- whether going to Twins baseball games, the Minnesota state fair, six flags, riding snow mobiles or to Palo Duro Canyon “hunting bears”; there was always plenty of laughter! In his personal life, Roger was a loving husband, father and grandfather. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Vartdal of Amarillo, Texas; his sons and daughters, Vernon Vartdal of Arlington, Texas, Scott Gorham of Andover, Minnesota, Tim Gorham of Osseo, Minnesota, Vicki Reynolds of Austin, Texas,  Steve Perryman of Fort Worth , Texas, Rhonda Gorham, of Andover, Minnesota, Susie Dubois of Austin, Texas, Jim Perryman of Amarillo, Texas, and Kirsten Mccall, of Minnetrista, Minnesota; as well as his adoring son and daughters in law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one niece, and one nephew. 

Roger was proceeded in death by his mother and father, Joseph Arnold and Marie Vartdal; spouse, Betty Straw; and brother, Robert Vartdal. 

May Roger rest in peace, and his memory be eternal.
