Rose Carolyn Maas

August 9, 1948 — June 2, 2026

Rose Carolyn Maas, 77, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026.

Private family services will be held in Amarillo, Texas and in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Carolyn was born on August 9, 1948, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to Martha Florence (Schwieger) and Francis Stanley Malanowski. She was raised in Erie, where she developed the strong work ethic, deep sense of family, and caring nature that would define her life.

One of the most important chapters of Carolyn's life began with a blind date at the public library, where she met the love of her life, Joe Maas. What started as a chance introduction blossomed into a beautiful partnership that spanned 58 years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on love, family, loyalty, and unwavering support for one another.

Carolyn enjoyed a long and successful career at Fairview Manor in Erie, Pennsylvania, where she rose to become head of the Medical Records Department. She was respected by her colleagues for her dedication, professionalism, and commitment to helping others.

While Carolyn took pride in her career, her most cherished role was that of wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was her greatest accomplishment and her greatest joy. She was a constant source of love, wisdom, encouragement, and strength, always putting the needs of those she loved before her own.

An avid gardener, Carolyn found happiness in nurturing beauty and watching things grow. She also expressed her love through cooking and baking. Family gatherings were made special by her delicious meals and unforgettable desserts. Carolyn will forever be remembered for her famous carrot cake, her delicious pies, and her beloved cream puffs, treats that became family traditions and symbols of her generosity and love.

Carolyn possessed a quiet strength and resilience that carried her through life's challenges with grace. She taught those around her the value of hard work, perseverance, kindness, and devotion to family. Her warmth and caring spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha Florence (Schwieger) Malanowski and Francis Stanley Malanowski, and by her brother, Protodeacon Michael Malanowski.

Carolyn is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Joseph Maas Jr; her children, Michele Agostini (Anthony), Dawn Peterson (Erik), and Joey Maas; her grandchildren, Cindy Peterson, Jessica Marin, Tiffany Maas, Sophia Agostini, Emilio Agostini, and Leif Peterson; her siblings, James Malanowski, Theodore Malanowski, Timothy Malanowski, Marilyn Redmond, and Martha Baginski; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

Though Carolyn is no longer with us, the love she shared, the family she nurtured, and the memories she created will remain a lasting blessing to all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and all those fortunate enough to have been loved by her.
