Roxie Lee Harred Stapp

June 11, 1934 — June 12, 2025

Groom

After a long, full, and beautiful life, Roxie Lee Harred Stapp earned her heavenly wings on June 12, 2025, at the age of 91. The family invites you to a visitation on Sunday, June 15, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Amarillo from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025 at the Claude Cemetery at 10:00 a.m with Andy Dietz officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Boulevard.

On June 11, 1934, Roxie was born to Hiram and Montie Mae Harred in Claude, Texas, and thus began a remarkable life that would make an indelible impact on so many for nearly a century. Known for her warm and welcoming nature, she was Nanny or Nan to nearly everyone she met, always ready to greet you with an open door and a warm, home-cooked meal. She loved hard and deep, meeting every family member exactly where they needed her, and she never shied away from a grandkid sleepover or even one with her great-grandkids.

Roxie married the love of her life, Ellis Stapp, on May 8, 1953, and they lived life hand-in-hand for 67 years until his passing in 2019. They had three children together, a son Ellis Dale, and two daughters, Brenda and Kim. They raised their children to have strong Christian beliefs, something that was instilled in each of the grand and great-grandchildren. They were both members of the First Baptist Church of Groom. She loved her husband wholeheartedly, you’d rarely see one without the other, and while she rejoiced that he was reunited with the Lord, she was never quite as happy without him beside her.

Your first impression of Roxie was undoubtedly a fashionable one; she had a flair for it, she was never without a manicure or pedicure, owned more shoes than a department store, and was always, always decked out in jewelry – right down to her button covers when they were en vogue.

Your second impression was sure to be how much she loved her Lord and Savior, it was integral to her very core, and she taught her entire family to live in sincere faith. She helped in her church’s kitchen right up until she simply couldn’t any longer.

The Lord was in her heart, and music was in her bones. She could recite every word to every hymn and she could play the piano by ear. She loved to listen to others play, too, though not without a little cringe at a wrong note. And her talent didn’t end there, she was also an outstanding athlete. She was on the 1951 and 1952 State Champion basketball team for Claude, and she took great pride in that carrying on in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid spectator, too. She rarely, if ever, missed a game or a match any of her grandchildren and great grandchildren played in, and would set alarms for all hours of the night to watch tennis matches around the world.

She was truly a champion in all parts of her life, and she will be greatly missed.

Roxie was welcomed into Heaven by her husband, Ellis, her parents, four brothers, four sisters, her daughter-in-law Terri Jo Stapp and granddaughter Brittany Lewellen.

She is survived by her children, a son, Ellis Dale and Gloria Stapp of Amarillo, and two daughters, Brenda and Randy Broom of Groom, and Kim and Russell Lewellen of Groom. She and Ellis created a legacy of 17 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren - Chris and Renee Stapp of Saudi Arabia (and sons Samuel, Ben and Joe), Shannon and Shelby Stapp of Amarillo (and sons Garrett and Shepherd), Jessica and Wyatt Weinheimer of Amarillo (and children, Zachary, Grady, Charlie Jo, and Levi), Colten Castleberry of Amarillo (and children Jaxson and Charlee), Channing and Josiah Stewart of Lubbock (and children Bennett and Maddox), Misty Homen of Bennington, Nebraska, Justin Homen of Amarillo, Jodi and Casey Crow of Panhandle (and children Ellis, Edge and Eppie), Malorie and Ryan Zimmer of Amarillo (and daughters, Hattie, Roxie and Monnie), Chris Homen of White Deer, Diedre and Mason Troutman of Friendswood (and children Khloe, Colton and Kaitlyn), and Dustin and Ashley Broom of Amarillo (and children Hallie, Livvy, Jolie and Hudson), Joshua and Bobbi Crooks of Amarillo (and daughters Parker and Campbell), Whitney Ball of White Deer (and daughters Blakelyn, Boston, Bristol and Baylor), Britney and Brett Britten of Groom (and children Piper and Rafe), Shenee Lewellen of Amarillo, Cadon Davis of Amarillo, Jaycee Lewellen of Olive Branch, Mississippi, and Bridger Lewellen of Amarillo.
