Roy Edward “Ed” Barbour, 77, of Sunray, died Thursday, October 23, 2025, in Dumas, Texas. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 Monday, October 27 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia, Texas with his brother-in-law, Johnny McDonald, officiating. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 Tuesday, October 28 at the Church of Christ in Sunray, Texas with Troy Albers & Jonathan Zerby officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas.
Ed was born on October 30, 1947, to Van and Erlene Barbour in Tulia, Texas. He grew up and attended school in Tulia. He married Donna Fleming on August 23, 1968, in Kress, Texas. He attended Texas A&M University in College Station and graduated with a B.S. in Entomology in 1971. Later, he attended and graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle State University with a B.B.A. in Accounting. Ed worked as an aerial crop duster for over forty years. He also worked as a CPA for Brown Graham & Company out of Amarillo and Singer Birkenfeld and Associates out of Tulia.
He was a dedicated member of the Sunray community, serving on the Sunray School Board for eight years and as the president of the board for several years. He was also the president and member of the Texas Agricultural Aviation Association. Ed was a member of the Sunray Church of Christ. His greatest joy in life was his family, with a close second being the Aggies—Gig ‘em!
Ed is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Jimmie Sue Estes and Dorothy Timmons.
Survivors include his wife, Donna of Sunray; daughter Keila Stegall and
husband Albert of Fritch; sons Kyle Barbour of Amarillo and Mitch Barbour and wife Amber of Denton; sisters Jean Richards of Decatur and Kathy Lust of Lubbock; brother Steve Barbour of Perrin; grandchildren Tyler and wife Allyson, Karli, Kali, Gracie, Van, and Ashlyn; great-grandchildren Bo and Baer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
