Rudy Barrera

Rudy Barrera (Cub), 73, of Amarillo, TX, died on July 8, 2025.

He was born in Amarillo TX in 1951 to Fred and Sophia Barrera. His grandmother Juanita played a major role in his life and helped shape him into the loving person that he was. Rudy was a dare devil from a young age, getting into a lot of mischief with his 5 siblings. Rudy attended Caprock Highschool where he was a state champion wrestler for 2 years. He spent his career working as a conductor for BNSF Railroad where he retired after 36.5 years. We will always picture him in a pair of overalls.

Margie and Rudy married in 1990 in Amarillo, TX. The went everywhere together, making a lifetime of memories. Rudy had three children before meeting his wife, Margaret. Louis, Amy and Rosalinda. He also raised two daughters with Margaret, Elaine and Valerie.

Rudy had twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren and treasured his time with them, and loved being their grandpa, never failing to tell them a farfetched story or put a dollar in their pockets. Rudy also had a host of nieces and nephews who adored their uncle Rudy.

Rudy had a soft spot for his pet chickens. They were often seen roaming the backyard and following him around.

Rudy had many friends that he spent a lot of time with throughout his life. From life on the train, to motorcycle rallies, they were together through it all. Rudy was always willing to lend a helping hand, have a drink with a friend or welcome anyone, any time for a garage visit and a chat.

Rudy was an active member of the Catholic Church all of his life and he loved the Lord. He attended a retreat in Los Angeles California as well as a mission trip to the Valley of Peace in Belize. Each opportunity to help others and enrich his faith pushed Rudy to dig deeper into the Church.

Everyone who knew Rudy knew how much he loved traveling, riding his Harley, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and cruising in his 62 Impala. He never failed to impress with his fashion sense and always looked sharp, whether he was sporting his Harley gear, his cowboy boots and bolo, his Stacy Adams and fedora or his overalls. He took much pride in maintaining his yard, always waving as friends and neighbors drove by.

Rudy will always be remembered for his sense of humor, big personality and amazing story telling abilities. Rudy could make anyone laugh. We will always imagine hearing him say “Too-da-loo!” one more time. We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, grandpa, father, uncle, brother and friend, and will miss Rudy every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.

Rudy was preceded in death by Fred, Sophia and big brother Patrick. And is survived by his spouse Margaret Barrera, sister Susie and spouse Don Candelaria, sister Carolyn and spouse Robert Delos Santos, brother Tim Barrera, brother Steve and wife Kim Barrera, son Louis Guerra, daughter Amy Resendiz, daughter Rosalinda and spouse Anthony Heider, daughter Elaine and spouse Danny Wilson and daughter Valerie and spouse Bryan Vallance. As well a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Rosary will be said at 7:00 PM, Thursday July 10, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Friday July 11, 2025 at St Mary’s Catholic Cathedral, 1200 Washington St. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
