Samuel Gutierrez, 72, of Amarillo, TX, passed away April 16, 2026.
Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 4100 S. Coulter. Celebration of Life to follow at Reed Beverage Hospitality Room, 3701 SE 25th Ave. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Samuel was born February 15, 1954, in Sonora, TX, to Elia and Isauro Gutierrez.
Sam graduated from Plainview High School in 1973, attended Texas Tech University, and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education from Wayland Baptist University. He built a meaningful and impactful career as a respiratory therapist, dedicating 45 ½ years of his life to caring for others during their most vulnerable moments. Known for his skill, compassion, and steady presence, Sam made a lasting difference in the lives of his patients and colleagues. He concluded his distinguished career as the Assistant Director of the Respiratory Department at Northwest, a role that reflected both his leadership and his deep commitment to his profession.
Outside of work, Sam found joy in the things he loved most. He enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his cousins and friends, where laughter and friendship were always part of the game. He was an avid cook and griller who loved bringing people together through food and fellowship. He loved his Red Raiders and cheered them on whenever he had the chance. Above all, Sam’s greatest joy was his family, the love of his life of 48 years, whom he referred to as “mi vida”, his two daughters, and of course his favorite title was “Ganpa” his grandsons were his pride and joy and he never missed the opportunity to talk about how proud of Tyson he was, he loved them more than words could express.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Joe and Isauro; and his precious grandson, Jason.
Samuel is survived by his loving wife, Angie; his daughters, Maurisa, (Sam) and Ashley; his grandson, Tyson; his grand puppy, Riggins and the many family members and friends who he considered family who will cherish his memory.
Sam will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his kind heart, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
