Sandra Jean (Patton) Jones, age 87, of Amarillo went to be with the Lord on Tuesday July 23rd, 2024.
Sandra was born to June and Owen Patton on July 2nd, 1937, in Quanah, TX. Sandra has a younger sister Patricia “Tish” Read. Later in childhood they moved to Bovina where she attended schools at Oklahoma Lane and Bovina TX. She graduated from Bovina High School in 1955. In 1957 Sandra married Ordie “Reggie” Jones, their marriage was blessed with three children Regina, Ronna, and Randall “Randy”. Sandra went back to school after having children and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Education from West Texas State University in 1974. Reggie and Sandra loved traveling in the fifth wheel around the country visiting friends, touring enchanted places, fishing on the Texas coast and in Colorado. Just enjoying the outdoors.
Sandra was active in many organizations throughout the years. One of her favorites was Beta Sigma Phi, a lifetime member since 1957. She was also involved in the Texas Gamma Phi Masters. Sandra was a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Amarillo for over 50 years, where she was also active in Saint Paul United Methodist Women. She was a member of Arts Unlimited Craft Club since 1979, joined Red Hats in 2005 and Golden Girls. She and Reggie were members of the Ye Ole Squares Dancing Club and Wagoneers Travel Club. Sandra was a proud homemaker in addition to being a substitute teacher in Amarillo from 1974 to 1999. She enjoyed hanging out with her grandkids and great-grandkids. Her favorite hobbies were reading, playing games, playing the piano, drawing, painting, and participating in many kinds of arts and crafts.
She was preceded in death by her father Owen Patton, and mother June Patton. She is survived by her husband Reggie Jones (married 66 years), her daughter Regina Clark (husband Kenneth), daughter Ronna Gilliam (husband Vince) and son Randall Jones (wife Sandrea) as well as grandchildren Ramona Lopez (husband Steve), Rochelle Waller (husband Tyler), Patton Gilliam (wife Abbey), Ellen York (husband Connor), Melissa Jones, Tyler Jones and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9-10:00 AM, prior to the service. A celebration of life will be held at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Chapel on Saturday July 27, 2024, at 10:00 am followed by a burial service at Llano Cemetery. Memorials should be sent to Saint Paul Methodist Church, 4317 W I-40, Amarillo TX 79106.
