Sharon Ann (Smith) Wood ,73, who was called “Grammy” by her grandchildren, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 11, 2024.

Sharon was born on November 6, 1950, to Orman “Shorty” Anthony Smith and Doris Eileen Smith in Bloomington, IL. She lived in Bloomington/Normal, IL, where she attended Trinity Lutheran School through 8th grade and then attended University High School where she graduated in 1968. While in high school, Sharon was actively involved in the band as a Saxophone player. Following high school, she completed 2 years at Illinois State University where she studied instrumental music. While attending high school, she met the love of her life and future husband, Robert “Bob” Wood. Following her two years at ISU, Sharon and Bob were married on July 3, 1970. During their 53 years of marriage, Sharon was a devoted wife who supported her husband through military service and over 40 years of ministry that they shared together. Sharon played the organ & piano in several churches where they served. She also became a certified sign language interpreter, a skill she used in the public-school setting. She was an avid crocheter and enjoyed counted cross-stitch and embroidery. Sharon was a member of Coulter Road Baptist Church, Amarillo, Texas.

Sharon is preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband.

She is survived by her two sons, Robert “Bobby” and wife Denise of Pflugerville, TX and David and wife Lori of Amarillo, TX. Five grandchildren, Celeste, Naomi, Kristen, Jarek and John Mark and two great granddaughters, Trinity and Ember.

The family will receive friends and family at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home on Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Services will be held at Coulter Road Baptist Church on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
