Sheri Gleora “Gle” Hardin

November 24, 1937 – September 15, 2025

Sheri Gleora Hardin, affectionately known as “Gle” to family and friends, entered heaven on September 15, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas, at the age of 87. She was greeted with big hugs as she walked through the heavenly gates.

Gle was born on November 24, 1937, in Snyder, Oklahoma, to James Fletcher Otwell and Mary Vee Otwell, both of whom preceded her in death. Growing up in Snyder, Gle formed early roots of kindness and hard work that would define her life. She graduated from Snyder High School in 1956, serving as the senior class secretary.

After high school, Gle married the love of her life, Jack Ray Hardin of Snyder, Oklahoma. They briefly lived in Trona, California, before settling in Amarillo, Texas, where they spent the rest of their lives together. Gle and Jack shared 66 beautiful years of marriage.

Gle worked at the Texas Visitor Center in Amarillo during the 1960s and later served as secretary for the family business, Hardin Electric. Beyond work, she lived life to the fullest—playing cards with friends, square dancing with Jack, golfing, and painting in her younger years. She also enjoyed being an active member of the Red Hat Society, Good Sam’s Camping Club, and a tractor restoration club.

While she embraced many hobbies, Gle’s greatest joy was found in her love and devotion to her husband and, later in life, to her adopted grandchildren. She rarely missed a celebration, school event, or milestone in their lives. She also treasured her daily phone calls with her great-niece, Letitia (Tisha) Minchew of Bristol, TX, and her dear friend Donna of Wheeler, TX.

Gle is survived by her adopted son Joseph Veitenheimer and wife Sara, and their children: Ricky and wife Maria Plascencia, Veronica and husband Tanner Loyall and their daughter Eliana, Jasmine Veitenheimer, and Josie Veitenheimer, all of Amarillo, TX. She is also survived by her niece, Sandra K. Bailey of Kaufman, TX, along with many great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews across Texas.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Hardin; brother Eugene and wife Beat Whitaker; niece Carolyn and husband Kenneth Lynch; and granddaughter Sarah Granados.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

Gle will be remembered for her kind heart, her joyful spirit, and her unwavering love for her family and friends.
