Shirley was born August 15, 1938 in Jacksboro, TX to Annie Laura (Rattan) and Roy Herbert Todd. She grew up in central Texas and the panhandle of Texas. Her parents and 8 children including Shirley moved often during the great depression and dust bowl days wherever her father could find work. It was not an easy life growing up at times walking up to 3 miles to catch the school bus. Other times not have shoes unless they were hand me downs. She loved playing basketball and singing in the high school choir her freshman and sophomore years at Lelia Lake, TX.

Shirley married Arley D. Bentley in Allison, TX on October 28, 1955. They were married 48 years. From 1963 until 2008, she lived in McLean, TX. Her part time work career included being a nurse’s aide at McLean Care Center, delivering papers for the Mclean paper route, and briefly a dietary aide at the Mclean hospital. Shirley loved farming, ranching, and being a homemaker but most of all she loved life, her family, and friends. Shirley always had a story to tell and loved to talk and visit with everyone. She was a spunky red head who never met a stranger and had a smile for all. She had that natural red hair until her last day. Shirley had a great sense of humor and a witty personality. Often her witty comments put a smile on your face. She was a member of Central Church of Christ, Amarillo TX.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Arley D. Bentley. Also preceded in death by parents Roy Herbert Todd and wife, Annie Laura; four sisters, Lois Bentley, Dorothy Isaacs, Earlene Vines, Ida Mae Moore; and two brothers, Melvin Baker and Leeroy Todd.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith Bentley of Amarillo, TX; sons, Donnie Bentley and wife Lisa of Rociada, NM, and John Arliss Bentley and wife Kathy of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Justin Bentley and wife Susan, Jarrod Bentley and wife Stephanie, Noel Bentley, David Bentley, and Emily Bentley; great-grandchildren, Jacob Bentley and Kaitlyn Bentley; and one brother, Thomas Todd, of McLean, TX.
