Sondra “Sandy” Sue Palmer, 81, of Amarillo, TX passed away June 18, 2026.
Sandy was born December 9, 1944 in Dallas, TX to James Otis Johnson and Frances Lucille Johnson. She grew up in the Dallas area where she attended schools there. She married Roy Don Coon on August 7, 1965. They lived in Duncanville, TX and Kansas City, Missouri before moving to Amarillo in 1970.
She worked at Levi Stauss Co. and operated her own hair salon until 1977. She was involved in her kids activities being the “Assistant Coach” of her son’s football team and coached her daughter’s cheerleading squad. She attended Amarillo College to obtain her Surgical Technologist degree. She worked at High Plains Baptist Hospital, later becoming Baptist St. Anthony’s (BSA), for 30 years before retiring in 2010. She had several pets during her lifetime and loved all animals dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents and late husband Roy Don Coon.
She is survived by her son Robby Coon and wife Tiffani, of Amarillo, TX.; daughter Sheri Coon Lanier of San Antonio, TX.; grandson Taylor Coon and wife Kelsey of Claude, TX; granddaughter Grace Coon of Dallas, TX; granddaughter Kyleigh Coon of San Antonio ,TX; great grandkids Meritt and Quincey Coon and dear friend Tammy Ziedy and daughter Madi of Amarillo, TX.
