Steven Anderson

Steven Anderson, 52, of Amarillo, TX, passed away on September 4, 2023.

Steven was born on June 14, 1971, in Pampa, TX to Betty and Gerald Anderson.

Throughout school, he enjoyed all things 4H, motocross, rodeo, football, and attending Fun Valley camping trips with his family. Steven was proud that the camping tradition continued with his own boys. After graduating Miami High School, Steven attended Dodge City Junior College with a full ride rodeo scholarship. He then went to continue his education at Clarendon College. Later, Steven attended Amarillo Fire Academy and became a firefighter.

Steven was a fireman for twenty-six years. Of those, Steven served with the Amarillo Fire Department for twenty years and retired with a distinguished career as a lieutenant in May 2021.  His son, Kasey, was promoted to his father’s position with the AFD. Then, Steven sought to enjoy his lifelong love of the cattle industry and went on to establish Anderson Beefmasters with his wife Lyn. He successfully raised and showed Beefmaster cattle, garnishing many awards and honors throughout the years.

His greatest joy of all was being “Cow Poppy” or “Poppy” to his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene and Moose Anderson of Miami, TX; and Buster and Pearl Baker of Vernon, TX.

He is survived by his wife, Lyn Anderson,  of Amarillo, TX; his parents, Betty and Gerald Anderson, of Miami, TX; his sister, Gerri Whitehead, and her spouse, Todd,  of Amarillo, and three nephews; his two sons and their spouses, Kasey Anderson and spouse Erin and grandchildren Owen and Reese of Amarillo; Kolton Anderson and spouse Summer and granddaughter Bristol of Miami, TX; and his step daughter, Kristi Van Winkle and spouse Sheldyn and grandchildren Bennett and Evan of Amarillo.

Services will be held at the Southwest Church of Christ at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 8, 2023, followed by graveside services at 4:30 pm in Miami, TX at the Miami Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the International Association of Fire Fighters Centers of Excellence, an organization treating successful recovery for PTSD. IAFF Center of Excellence, 13400 Edgemeade Rd., Upper Marlboro, MD, 20772.
