Steven “Steve” Harold Kurts, 68, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on September 5, 2024.
Visitation will be at the family home from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M., Sunday, September 8, 2024. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, September 9, 2024, at Chaparral Hills Baptist Church, with Alan Burkhalter officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.
Steve was born in Dumas, Texas on January 6, 1956, to Mable Eunice (Robertson) and Oren Harold Kurts. He was the 4th of 6 children. Steve graduated from Dumas High School in 1974. After graduation, he went to work for Bobby Williams, and they have remained close friends throughout the years. Steve went on to work for Phillips 66 as a Lead Off where he retired in March of 2013.
Steve married Linda Spencer on August 22, 2009, at their home in Amarillo, Texas.
Steve deeply loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends. He was known for always talking and telling stories. Steve never let the truth get in the way of a good story and always had hand motions to make it even more elaborate. Steve loved donating his time to Snack Pak 4 Kids. He was always available for his family and friends.
Steve enjoyed cows and horses, and fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed traveling and spending time in Texas and Idaho.
As Steve said, “please do not try to make me sound better than I am or worse than I was.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mable Kurts; siblings, Ester Hickam, and Zola Ann Short; and brothers-in-law, Bill Raney, and Norm Meyers.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Kurts; son, Justin Kurts and wife Jennifer, their children, Addison Kurts, and Kenadie Kurts; daughter, Jeanie Jimenez and husband Andrew, their children, Khadence Flores, Aubree Coates, Brycen Kurts, and Brinlyn Jimenez; great-granddaughter, Madaline Flores; and siblings, Carolyn Raney, Mary Beth Meyers, and Jim Kurts.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be given to Snack Pak 4 Kids Amarillo, or American Cancer Society Gene and Jerry Jones Family Hope Lodge Dallas.
