Claudene Sue Lowry was born on October 29, 1939, in Dodge City, KS to Hank and Ida Lowry. She was married to Donald Eugene Hartranft, Sr. on February 10, 1959, and enjoyed 32 years of marriage until his passing in 1991. She married James Deakin on November 4, 1999.
Sue worked for TXDOT for over 24 years as the office manager in Hansford County. Sue was an active member of First Baptist Church in Gruver where she was raised and where she raised her four children. After her move to Amarillo, she was a member of South Georgia Baptist Church and enjoyed many Bible studies, and various activities with the SonShiner group. When she and Jim moved to Brookdale Senior Living a few years ago, she made many friends while enjoying the various activities there. Some of the many things she enjoyed was studying her Bible, her dogs, going on camping and fishing trips to the mountains, visiting with her children, and serving on foreign mission trips with Jim including one to El Salvador and one to the Philippines. However, the joy of her life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sue was preceded in death by her first husband, Don; her parents, Hank and Ida Lowry; a daughter, Terri Strickland; a grandchild, Colby Lee Browning; and a brother, Larry Lowry.
Sue is survived by her husband, Jim; her brother, Tommy Lowry; three children and their spouses, Debbie Dempsey (Ed), Cindy Browning, and Donnie Hartranft (Amie); two sons-in-law, Randy Strickland, and Joe Bob Browning; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and Jim’s children, Chris (Jessie) Deakin, Julie (Steve) Babe, and Lori (Dennis) McAuley; and all of Jim’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
