Susan "Sue" Maxey Atkinson

Susan “Sue” Maxey Atkinson, 82, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on June 16, 2026 in Amarillo.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo, with family and friends gathering to honor her memory and celebrate her life. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Sue was born on March 4, 1944 in Columbia, South Carolina, to Glenn and Helen Maxey. She was raised in Pampa, Texas and graduated from Pampa High School. She continued her education at West Texas State University, where she was a proud member of the Chi Omega sorority and developed lifelong and treasured friendships.

Sue lived her life with unshakeable faith and a dedication to helping others. She was among the first ten founding families of Trinity Fellowship Church, where she spent decades serving others and volunteering to visit patients in local hospitals, offering comfort, encouragement, and a listening ear for those facing difficult times.

To those who knew her best, Sue was more than just a woman of faith and service. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who created a home filled with laughter, warmth, and memories that would last a lifetime. She cherished hosting family dinners, tending her beautiful gardens, and creating special traditions with her grandchildren.

Some of the most cherished memories of Sue weren’t found in grand gestures, but in the quiet, simple moments: taking nature walks, pointing out every bird, and stopping to appreciate each flower along the way.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Helen Maxey.

She is survived by her sons, Jarrett Atkinson and wife Kirsti and Grant Atkinson and wife Alissa; her daughter, Julie Habel and husband Jason; her brother, Rick Maxey and wife Mary; her sister, Joan Hasenauer and husband Leonard; nine grandchildren, Melissa Seale, Justin O'Brien and wife Lauren, Jordan McClellan, Audrey Hatcher and fiancé Peyton Maynard, Chrislen Seemann, Connor Atkinson and wife Kyla, Ethan Atkinson, Sara Kelton and husband Twister, and Emma Atkinson; and four great-grandchildren.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the many friends, caregivers, and members of Trinity Fellowship Church who blessed Sue throughout her life with their love, prayers, and support. Sue will be remembered for her steadfast faith, selfless heart, endless wonderment, and the love she shared so freely with her family and friends. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. The lessons, stories, and love she shared will continue to live for generations to come.
