Teresa Ann Bilgri grew up in Dumas, Texas and graduated from Dumas High School in 1957. She went to West Texas State College in Canyon and graduated with a teaching degree in 1960. This is where she met her future husband, Richard Wayne Potter.
Teresa married Wayne on September 3, 1960 in Canyon, Texas. They were married 38 years before Wayne’s passing in 1998. Teresa was a teacher at a number of school districts with her final 17 years being in Vega teaching reading and 5th grade. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who attended her kids sporting, band, and theatre events. She was also the epitome of a coach’s wife. She was at almost every sporting event from August to May supporting the athletes and coaches with all her heart.
After Wayne’s death, Teresa continued to travel in their 5th wheel for a few years going to her favorite place, Pendaries, New Mexico. She enjoyed volunteering at BSA Hospice, taking care of her yard, especially the roses in the back yard, and hosting ladies for coffee after daily Mass. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church before dementia took its toll. Teresa will be remembered for her kind, generous, caring soul.
Teresa is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne and son, Joe. She is survived by her daughter, Joan Brunet and husband Carrol of Bushland, son Mike Potter and wife Jan of Amarillo, brother Myron Bilgri and wife Audiene of Fritch, sister Sam Urbanczyck of Hereford, granddaughters Morgan Hooker of Amarillo, Meg Potter of Amarillo, and Courtney Hartley and husband Seth of Littlefield.
The family would like to thank the staff at GoodLife and Enhabit Hospice for their kindness and care of Teresa over the past 4 years. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Immaculate Conception Parish Hall Building fund in Vega or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
