Theresa Kay Barr, 69, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on March 9, 2026.
Viewing will be from 8 AM- 8 PM, Friday, March 13, 2026 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount. Memorial service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
She was born on February 24, 1957, in Amarillo, Texas, to John William Barr and Peggy Jean Barr. Theresa graduated from Caprock High School in 1975, where she proudly became the first female to participate in the school’s Marine ROTC program. Her determination and strength of character were evident even at a young age and remained with her throughout her life.
She built a career as a hairstylist, where her warm personality and gift for conversation made clients feel like friends. Later, she also operated a photo booth business, bringing joy and laughter to weddings, birthday parties, graduations, family reunions, and business gatherings. She loved capturing moments that people could cherish for years to come.
Above all else, Theresa was a devoted mother. Her five children were the center of her world, and she loved them more than anything that walked this earth. She was a hands-on mother who never hesitated to get down on the floor to play, laugh, and experience life alongside her children. She often said that her children were the siblings she never had, and she carried that bond proudly throughout her life.
Theresa found joy in the many things she loved. She had a deep appreciation for horses, crafting, painting, cars, gardening, and photography. She enjoyed taking pictures of everything—from family moments to the beauty of the clouds in the sky. She also had a special love for her Great Danes, who were always part of her family. Her love only grew deeper as her family grew. Theresa adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the pride and happiness she felt for them was evident in the way she smiled at them and held them close.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John William Barr and Peggy Jean Barr, and by her husband, Joel Richardson.
Theresa is survived by her children: Tiffany Oyebi and fiancé Billy Alsbrooks; Aaron Felton and wife Jessica Felton; Jonathan Chestnut; Elizabeth Ward; and Whitney Ostrander. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Courtney Oyebi, Carrie Oyebi, Tyler Oyebi, AJ Felton, Nash Felton, Jonathan Chestnut Jr., Darathan Chestnut, Zachary Ward, Kylie Chestnut, Mackenzie Ward, Samantha Amos, Savannah Ostrander, Aubree Ostrander, Bryn’Lee Ostrander, and Kay’Lynn Ostrander. She leaves behind four great-grandchildren: Avery Kossaeth, Zane Vasquez Jr., McKinley Wade, and Camden Mallinger.
Theresa will be remembered for her strength, creativity, laughter, and the deep love she had for her family. She will be loved and deeply missed by all who knew her. The loss of her
leaves a hole that can never truly be filled and brings immense sadness to the hearts of those who loved her, but her memory and legacy will live on through the family she cherished so dearly.
“Mom, you were our greatest blessing and our forever home. The love you gave us will live on in each of us, and we will carry it with us always. Until we meet again, we will carry your heart.”
