Tomme Ruth Oden

Tomme Ruth Martin Oden, age 90, died July 2, 2026, in Wylie Texas. She was surrounded by her husband and three children.

Tomme was born June 17, 1936, in Westover Texas, the second of five children born to Ruth Berry Martin and J.T. Martin. A Seymour High School graduate, Tomme entered Texas Tech University in 1954, was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, and graduated with a B. A. in 1958.

Tomme married Ensign Jon Theodore Oden in August, 1958, and began married life in Athens, Georgia, before they transferred to San Diego (USS Jason), and finally Kingsville Naval Air Station. Tomme taught 1st Grade in San Diego and Kingsville. Tomme spent the majority of her married life in Amarillo, Texas, where she volunteered with the Junior League, Symphony Guild, the Amarillo Garden Center, Baptist Hospital Auxiliary, and served as the President of the Amarillo Law Wives. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo, teaching Sunday School and serving on the Chrismons Christmas Tree committee. Later in life, she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Amarillo and of First Baptist Church, Garland, Texas. Tomme also enjoyed gardening, especially raising roses.

Tomme is survived by her husband of 68 years, Jon T. Oden of Wylie, Texas, and three children: Joruth Oden of Dallas, Texas, Barbra Oden Craft (Logan Craft) of Katikati, New Zealand, and JT Oden II (Becky Oden) of Murphy, Texas. Tomme has 5 grandchildren: Isaac, Jack, and Trip Oden, Sarah Catherine Craft, and Ann Elise Craft Furley. She also has 1 great grand-child: Penelope Furley, daughter of Ann Elise and Calvin Furley of Austin, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held in Seymour, Texas, at the Masonic Cemetery on Friday, July 10, at 12:00 PM. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
