Tommie Frances Barkley

Tommie Frances Barkley, 83, of Amarillo, TX passed away on April 9, 2026, in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be at the Hansford Cemetery, Spearman, TX, at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 18, 2026, conducted by Dr. David Miracle. Arrangements are directed by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, Amarillo, TX, where she will be available for viewing on April 17, 2026 from 11:00 AM- 8:00 PM.

Tommie was born on March 6, 1943 in Lamesa, TX to Homer Edward King and Etta Lynn Dougherty. Tommie Frances King married William Freeman Barkley on August 7, 1965 in Andrews, TX. Tommie graduated from Andrews High School and from Texas Tech University.

She was devoted to her children, Heather Suzanne Barkley, PhD, Dr. Brian Freeman Barkley, MD, William Clint Barkley, JD, and her granddaughter Audrey Lee Barkley.

She valued her time as a volunteer leader of Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and the auxiliary of High Plains Baptist Hospital. Tommie served two terms as president of the auxiliary. Tommie co-owned Champion Car Wash with her husband Bill. She enjoyed knowing all customers and was referred to as "the car wash lady". They retired upon sale of the business in 2020.

Tommie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother David King, and her daughter Heather Suzanne Barkley.

She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Bill, sons Brian and Clint, and granddaughter Audrey. Survivors also include in-laws Malcolm and Mary Ellen Kirkland of Sulphur Springs, TX, niece Jana and Danny Prochaska, nephew Paul and Kim Kirkland and family, all of Sulphur Springs. Additionally, Tommie is survived by Laura King and family of Andrews, TX.
