Venita Rae Kelly Carter, 73, of Amarillo, TX passed away June 18, 2025.
Graveside service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Memorial Park Cemetery at Vega. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Venita was born March 29, 1952 to Andrew Stephen “Pete” and Hallie Mae Wright Kelly in Amarillo, TX. She was raised in Vega, TX. She married Robert Carter on May 25, 1973 and they resided in Amarillo, TX. She was a WTSU graduate.
Venita honored her mother and father. She was a wonderful sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. As Jesus said, “let the little children come unto me..” she embodied that message spending countless hours with her beloved nieces, nephews, and neighborhood children. She played games that she invented and sang songs with them when they were dying easter eggs, it was a joyful pastime for the children. She spoke words of truth into their lives and encouraged them with her favorite scripture, 2 Thessalonians 3:13 “Never tire of doing the right thing.”
She was faithful in praying for her family and friends. She was a lifelong Southern Baptist and rejoiced in studying God’s word.
She was an adventurous traveler and enjoyed concerts of diverse genres. Her favorite was Handel’s Messiah. She also enjoyed gardening, loved her flower displays and felt happy visiting the local farmers market. She had a giving heart and gave years of service to the Salvation Army Angel Tree and Write Way Prison Ministry.
Venita was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Kaye.
She is survived by her husband Robert, sister, Sue; and nieces, nephews, and great number of people she loved and who loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be given to First Presbyterian Church, Murray’s House.
