Vernas Lanell Moore

Vernas Lanell Moore, age 99, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 16, 2025.

She was born on December 21, 1925, in Leach, Oklahoma to Hugh F. Bruton and Freda Mae Bruton. She was the oldest of six children.

Vernas was preceded in death by her husband, James William Moore; a baby daughter, Marilyn June Moore; her brothers, Ted Bruton, Jesse Bruton; and two of her sisters, Joyce Gatchet and Lois Triplett.

She was a strong Christian woman who loved to read, quilt and crochet until her eyesight would not allow her to do her favorite things.

Vernas is survived by her three daughters and two sons and their spouses, Shirley Byrd (Ralph), Joan Furst, Pat Connell (Harold), Joseph Shipp (Dora) and Don Shipp (Linda), a grandson Larry Blackburn whom she raised since age 12, and a sister, Zetta Stubblefield of Oakridge, Oregon and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, July 21, 2025 at Llano Cemetery (newer area across Arthur St. at 34th). Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
