Willys Knight Lamb, 94, of Amarillo, TX died Thursday, July 3, 2025.
Services will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, July 11, 2025 at Paramount Baptist Church with Lance Herrington officiating and military rites by Volleys for Veterans. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Willys was born on February 9, 1931 in Wheeler County, TX to Alta M. (Morgan) and Roy M. Lamb. His family moved to Happy, TX when he was 9 years old. At age 17, Willys joined the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1958 and chose to move near Wildorado, TX to start farming. Willys was fond of saying that he moved to Wildorado because it was just a bit too far north to grow cotton, and he’d already spent too many days in the cotton patch when he was a child. Willys farmed until he was 90 years old.
Willys married Sandra S. Clark on February 4, 1995 and they both like to say they had never even had a fuss. They had thirty wonderful years of respect, friendship, and true love. Willys was a long-time member of Palo Duro Baptist Church and then Paramount Baptist Church.
Willys worked hard every day to show how much he loved the land entrusted to him. He had no tolerance for weeds. He always had a freshly sharpened hoe to give one of his kids to knock down any weeds in the garden, ditches, or fields. Willys loved having a garden, and he would let most people have whatever they picked. He especially enjoyed the years when he planted a couple of acres of pumpkins, just so the students at Wildorado Elementary could come and pick their own!
Willys enjoyed working on his farm but he had many other interests as well. He loved to travel, and he visited many places in the United States and abroad. Willys was proud of serving on the Board of Directors for the Palo Duro Co-op. However, Willys was happiest when surrounded by his family. He loved to have his grandkids come out to the farm to ride horses, drive go-carts, run through sprinklers, and chase the chickens.
Willys is preceded in death by daughters, Beth Ann Lamb and Bonnie Hahn; his parents; sisters Viola Wagner, Dorthea Keele, Mable Sartor, Sidney Miller, and Georgia Hancock; brothers, Leroy Lamb, J. Lougene Lamb, Elvin Lamb, and Earl Lamb; grandchildren, Bryan Hahn and Shelby Clark; and great-grandchildren, Zoe and Cash Taylor.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Lamb of the home; daughters, Jo Carol Calaway (Geary) of Marble Falls, TX, Margala Reinbold, and Sidney Teresa Joiner (Cory) both of Amarillo; his sons, Lark Lamb of Canyon, TX and Lyndon Lamb (Scott Krantz) of Durant, OK; bonus sons, Danny Clark (Robin) and David Clark (Kim) both of Amarillo; sisters, Marilyn Hodges of Amarillo, TX and Alice Henderson of Green Valley, AZ; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
