Abec, Ralph Palmer “Red” Pullen

ABEC, Ralph Palmer “RED” Pullen, USN, Retired, 90, of Canyon, TX passed away on January 15, 2023, surrounded by family.

Ralph was born in Elmont, New York on September 22, 1932, to William Pullen and Mary Lumsden.

Ralph joined the United States Navy in 1950 and served 22 plus years, reaching the rank of Chief Petty Officer, he served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars, serving the majority of his career on numerous Air Craft Carriers to include the USS Lexington, USS Randolph, USS Saratoga, USS Forrestal, as well as the USS Kitty Hawk, where Chief Pullen would go on and earn the Navy Commendation Medal as well as the Navy Occupation Service and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals.

Chief Pullen’s experience while serving in the United States Navy played a vital role in his life, he often spoke of the discipline, the value of teamwork and the comradery that service brought, he loved sitting with family telling sea stories, especially with his grandchildren. Chief Pullen was a true Sailor through and through, he loved his family, the Navy and his Country.

Chief Pullen was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret Tyer Pullen; and daughter, Janet Bernice Rogers.

Survivors include, daughter, Denise Box of Canyon; and sons, Ralph P. Pullen Jr. of Magnolia, and Dewayne of Corpus Christi. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

for Chief Pullen will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, January 19th at the First Church of the Nazarene in Amarillo.
