Adam Cortez

Adam Cortez, 46, of Amarillo, TX passed away on July 17, 2022.

What do you call a man that constantly has your back? One who gives selflessly and always makes everyone laugh? A JERK. That’s what we prefer to call him. How did Adam feel about that? Well, he always responded with, “#23, sucka”! Adam Cortez had many titles along with so much love and respect.

It is for that reason that we all mourn our loss. Adam was taken from us before we were ready, on July 17, 2022, in Amarillo, TX. We mourn for ourselves and the hurt we feel because we were not ready, but in our hearts and in our faith, we know that Adam is in a better place and will continue to take care of us.

Adam lived a full life in his short 46 years. He was born to Joe and Carmen Cortez in the wee hours of the morning on November 3, 1975, in Amarillo, TX. He spent most of his childhood “gently” tormenting his cousins, little sister, and neighborhood friends. Adam got married and became a father at the young age of 17. Although it was a challenge, he fought to be a good family man, brother, son, cousin, and friend. It wasn’t always easy. He made mistakes. He prevailed.

As an adult, Adam worked alongside his dad as a mason. He loved spending time with the family. He was always challenging anyone that was willing to lose (his words). His favorites were horseshoes, pool, cornhole, chess, and checkers. He pitched for the JERKS, the family softball team. He took care of those he loved.

Adam is survived by so so many loved ones. The closest of which include, but are not limited to his parents, Joe and Carmen; his brother, Victor; his sister, Consuelo (Victor); his wife, Socorro; his kids, Victor (Melissa), Darian, Desarae, and Deija; and his grandchildren, Alyssa, Alizae, and DJ. Let’s not forget his nephews, Carlos and Alejandro; his trusty sidekick, Margaret; and whole slew of primos and primas.

This JERK will mostly be remembered for his unending love and helpful ways, plus his fun-loving, competitive nature.

The family will honor Adam’s life at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, TX 79109. The rosary will be on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at 6:00 p.m., in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  Memorial services will be Thursday, July 21, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.
