
With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Amelia Villegas Reyes on October 1, 2023, at BSA Hospital in Amarillo, TX.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 6, 2023, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Amelia was born to Gilberto and Ygnacia Villegas on May 20, 1949. She married Victor Reyes on April 15, 1972, and moved to Amarillo where they resided and raised their daughter, Veronica Elizalde.
Amelia graduated from Deming Public School in New Mexico in May 1968. She worked various jobs including Snappy Marts Convenience Store. Amelia also worked as a classroom assistant with Deming and Amarillo public schools. She enjoyed working at her booth at the flea market in Amarillo. Most of all, she enjoyed helping raise her grandchildren.
Amelia is survived by her husband Victor Reyes; her daughters, Veronica Elizalde (Enrique) of Amarillo, TX, and Jessica Nava; brothers, Jesus Villegas (Violet) of Silver City, NM and Reymundo Villegas (Ernestina) of Las Cruces, NM; sisters, Herlinda Villegas of Avondale, AZ and Delia Turner (Doug) of Deming, NM; brothers and sister in laws, Elizabeth Reyes, Gustavo (Esperanza), Ciria (Mayela), Juan (Delma), Miguel Reyes and Rosario Esparza (Alejandro); grandchildren, Joseph, Kristobal, Enrique, Kristen, Alexander, Roman, and Isla Elizalde, Bianca Nava, Carmen Nava, Jordan Ramos, and Karina Mena; and 8 great-grandchildren, Esmie, Emea, Elias, Noah and Mateo Elizalde, Yarehtzi Ramos, Jacqueline Ramos, and Adriel Ramos.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gilberto and Ygnacia Villegas; 6 brothers, Gilbert Jr., Francisco, Salvador, Armando, Daniel Villegas and Samuel Crawford; sisters, Ramona Villegas and Consuelo Juarez; and twin infant sons, Sergio Victor and Mario Francisco Reyes.
Love you always, I’m glad you’re at peace now, no more hurt, pain, grief, or sorrow. Sleep well my sister. Till we meet again in God’s holy grace.
My heart is broken 💔. My very best best friend from childhood has gone with our Lord. Amelia you were a wonderful friend, mother, grandmother n sister. I will always cherish our memories you were the best. One thing I will miss you calling me for my birthday. You never forgot. R.I.P. my sweet friend. You are now walking the streets of gold in heaven. Forever my friend ❤️
