Barbara Ann Borchardt Courte

Barbara Ann Borchardt Courte, 75, of Amarillo passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Amarillo, Texas with Reverend David Schatte officiating and Reverend Rick Black assisting.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Barbara was born October 2, 1947, in Osage, Iowa to Raymond and Olive Borchardt. Barbara was the third child and only daughter of the couple. After graduating Osage High School, Barbara moved to Des Moines, Iowa and began her career in the medical profession, working in the hospital’s physical therapy department.

In Des Moines, Barbara met her husband.  Barbara married Richard Courte July 21, 1973, at St. John Lutheran Church in Osage, Iowa.   After their wedding day, the couple moved to California, where Richard’s job took them.   Barbara continued in her work in physical therapy while in California.

After several years in California, the couple moved to Merrillville, Indiana.   There, Barbara found work in physical therapy.  The couple enjoyed living closer to Barbara’s parents and her brother Dennis’ family.  Barbara traveled home often and treasured many memorable visits with the family, especially since her husband’s job required him to be away from home frequently.

Family has always been very important to Barbara.  After eighteen years in Merrillville, an opportunity arose for the couple to move to Amarillo, Texas.  Barbara jumped at the chance to live closer to her brother Paul and his family.  In Amarillo, Barbara worked as the Office Manager for Dr. Dustin Frazier for thirteen years.

In 1995 Richard and Barbara joined Trinity Lutheran Church and became active members, serving on the Social Ministry Board.   Barbara was also a member of the church’s Parish Nurse Ministry.

Richard and Barbara prepared delicious monthly breakfasts for the Saturday Morning Men’s Bible Study.   One would always find them preparing and serving meals, whether it be Easter Sunday Breakfast, the Tommy Hathcock BBQ, the Chili Cookoff, the Hearts for Trinity Lutheran School Banquet, or the Wednesday evening Advent / Lent Suppers.

In addition to these special events, Richard and Barbara helped organize and prepare funeral meals, meals to homebound members, and many others.  The couple enjoyed helping in whatever way they could to make life easier and more enjoyable for family, friends, and fellow church members who were in need of help.

Barbara truly had a servant’s heart, and she will be greatly missed.  Barbara’s laughter and humor made every encounter with her fun and memorable.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.  Survivors include her husband, Richard of Amarillo, her brothers and their wives: Paul (Paula) Borchardt of Amarillo, and Dennis (Kathy) Borchardt of Mason City, Iowa, six nieces and one nephew and their spouses, six great-nieces and five great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Trinity Lutheran Christian School Scholarship Fund, 5005 I 40 West, Amarillo, TX 79106.
