Barbara Lane Lanning, 65, of Amarillo, TX died Friday, May 13, 2022.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at First Family Church, 6101 Bell St. with Billy Nickell officiating.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Barbara was born May 13, 1957, in Los Angeles, CA, where she was immediately adopted by Robert and Earlene Lane.  She was flown home to Amarillo, Tx, where she lived the rest of her life.

She attended Pleasant Valley Elementary School, Horace Mann Junior High School, and graduated from Palo Duro High School.  Barbara attended Amarillo College, and completed the nursing program, receiving her Registered Nursing license in 1990.

Barbara was married to Loyd Lanning on May 26, 1996.

Barbara worked in the nursing field starting at St Anthony’s Hospital, which merged with High Plains Baptist Hospital to form Baptist/St Anthony’s.  She retired as an RN in 1996. Barbara was a member of First Family Church.  She was an accomplished pianist, playing with her father’s gospel quartet at the age of five. She loved animals, especially the many dogs that were part of the family through the years. Her greatest joy was her son, Matt. She never ceased to be grateful to God for the gift of this child.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Earlene Lane, her father, Robert Lane, and an unborn daughter, Taylor.

Survivors include her husband, Loyd Lanning, of Amarillo, TX; her son, Robert “Matt” Lanning; and a host of beloved family members.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at the funeral home.

    I just want to express my deepest condolences for your loss. I opened the newspaper today with the disquieting announcement of Barbara’s death a few hours too late to attend her services. I’m so sorry! We’ve kept in touch with Christmas cards for years. You’re in my loving prayers for peace, comfort, and sustainable strength.
