Barbara “MeMe” Louise Whiteley, 77, went to her heavenly home on September 14, 2021, in the presence of her family.

Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Friday, September 24, 2021 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Pastor Tommy Spencer officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Barbara didn’t know a stranger. She would pray with anyone she could as she would run her weekly errands. Her passion in life was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family. She spread love through her baking and cooking and nobody left her house hungry. Her prayers pulled power from heaven and will be a legacy for generations to come. She truly was a woman of great faith, compassion, joy, and love. She will be greatly missed.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents John Bethel Hert and Bernice Louise Hert of Fullerton, California and daughter Stacey Romero of Amarillo.

Survivors include her husband Richard Wayne Whiteley of Amarillo, and daughter and son-in-law DeAnn and Jerry Elizardo of Oklahoma; Grandchildren include Alexis Ortiz of Oklahoma, Jacob Romero and wife Jennifer of Amarillo, Abby and Gabriel Elizardo of Oklahoma; Adopted family Ernie and Reba Russell of Amarillo and Spencer and Mallory Cockrell of Amarillo; Great-grandchildren include Scarlette and Ezekiel Ortiz of Oklahoma and James and John Romero of Amarillo.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 P.M., Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the funeral home.

  1. I was just talking about what a wonderful woman Barbara was with my son and was looking to see if I could find her on Facebook when I came across this. So sorry to see that she has passed. She was truly a great, Christian Lady that made the world a much more beautiful place for me while I knew her. Prayers and thoughts with the family.

    1. So sorry to hear about this. I started talking about her to my wife today as she was one of the people that brought me alot of joy in my childhood. I decided to look her up and was met with this news. Her family is in my heart.

  2. Oh what a loss. I will always remember Barbara fondly. Such a beautiful lady, inside and out. Prayers are lifted for the family. I can’t help but think about the wonderful Barbara/Stacey reunion going on right now.
