Betsy Margrethe Dahl Ward, 103, of Amarillo, TX peacefully passed away on

Monday, March 20, 2023.

A private family burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Gruver Cemetery in Gruver, TX.  Memorial services will be in the afternoon at 2:00 p.m., at Gruver Methodist Church with retired minister, Beverly Cook, officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo, TX.

Betsy was born to John and Jensine Dahl at home in Hansford County, TX on January 3, 1920.  She lived in Hansford County between Gruver and Spearman until 2018, when she moved to Amarillo to live with her daughter, Ann.  She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Spearman.

She served her country during World War II in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corp.

Betsy married Jewel James Ward on September 10, 1948, in Clayton, NM.  He preceded her in death on January 5, 2001.

She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Lee Ward in 1958; and siblings, Ingeborg Sogn, John Dahl, Selma Reneau, and Doris Schibler.

Survivors include her son, James Walter “J.W.” Ward & wife Rhonda of Gruver, TX, daughter, Ann Ward McClure & husband Russell of Amarillo, TX; four grandchildren, Monica Ward Hallam & Mike of Sachse, TX, Jason Ward & Steffany of Gruver, TX, Robyn McClure Osman & Brian of Tulsa, OK, and Jessica McClure Peace & Jordon of Amarillo, TX. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Landon & Landry Hallam, Sutton, Simon & Brooks Ward, Emily & Gwennie Osman, Morgon & Jaxson Peace.

Memorials can be sent in memory of Betsy to Children’s Miracle Network of Amarillo (which previously benefitted two great-grandsons while in NICU) at 500 S. Taylor #233, Amarillo, TX 79101.
