Bettie Lee Henry, 100, of Amarillo, TX passed away on May 19, 2021.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, May 28, 2021, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Supt. Elisha L. Demerson officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Bettie was born on January 4, 1921, in Cameron, Texas, to Sullivan Demerson and Molly Tillery.
Sullivan Demerson was the son of Albert Sullivan Demerson who was a freed slave from the Batson farm in Cameron, TX. Once freed Albert Sullivan married an Indian woman by the name of Bettie and that is who Bettie was named after.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Will Alexander; her second husband, Chester Henry; her two brothers, I.T. Demerson, and Albert Demerson; her sister, Gettie May Demerson; two sons, Ernest Alexander, and Guss Alexander; and two daughters, Ruthie Alexander, and Lottie Edwards.
She is survived by one son, Bobbie Ray Alexander; twelve grandchildren, Guss Alexander Jr., Steve Alexander, Sean Alexander, Sheryl Alexander Travis, Sonji Alexander Wilhelm, Stephanie Alexander, Renee Alexander, Keisha Bello, Roger Brown, Q Young, Damari Young, and Kenneth Edwards; and twenty-six great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
