Betty Denney Copeland Hill, 79, of Amarillo, passed away on May 1, 2022.

A memorial service will be held in her honor, on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 2 pm at Crossroads Country Church at 14425 FM 1541 South Washington, Amarillo, TX 79118.

Betty was born on March 21, 1943 in Denton, TX to Albert Denney and Elsie Baird. Betty graduated from Palo Duro High School and received her Master’s Degree and PH.D from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

She worked the majority of her life as an educator in Art. She was employed by several universities and finally retired as the Chairperson of the Art Department at Texas Women’s University. She was also the Education and Tourism Director for Courthouse on Square Museum in Denton, TX.

She received awards including Outstanding Educator for Higher Education from the Texas Art Education Association and was a member of Who’s Who in American Education.

She volunteered with the American Red Cross and served as a “Donut Dollie” in Korea from 1967-1968.

She was active in her community with the Denton Festival Foundation, the Greater Denton Arts Council and The Arts Guild Denton before retiring to Amarillo.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ron Hill, parents Albert and Elsie Denney, a brother, Billy Denney Sr. and a nephew, Billy Denney Jr.

She is survived by nieces Maria Barnes and Michelle Cook, a nephew David Denney and a cousin Mary Poynor.
