Betty Laverne Henson Hamner “Memaw” was born January 21, 1937, and ran to Jesus on June 12, 2022.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Bell Avenue Church of Christ.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Betty was born to Bill and Eathel Shields Henson.  She graduated from   Childress High School and afterwards, she worked at Harp Drug Store.

She met and dated L G Hamner while he was on leave from the Navy. His blue eyes stole her heart.  After a short time, they married on November 8, 1957.  They moved to Amarillo where she worked at Plains Machinery. On August 14, 1958, yes, 9 months later, Randy Lee was born.  Later came Charlotte and then precious Debra.

L G and Betty enjoyed 58 years of faithful happiness. They both loved their children and grandchildren.

Betty was greeted by her parents Bill and Eathel along with siblings-Myrtle Lonnie, Horace, Barbara and Brenda. Also, many other loved ones.

She nurtured and loved the ones she left behind. Her children and their spouses-Randy Hamner, who cared for her after Dad passed. Charlotte Longoria and husband Gil, Debra Yarber and husband Kavan.  Her grandchildren were a blessing, Tallie, Cressie, Brad, Tresa, Randi, Dalinda, Shelbie, Heather, Abby, Seth and Tylah.  She adored her numerous great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren who made 5 generations.

Any time you spoke with Betty she mentioned family and friends. She enjoyed everyone who called her @ 9:00 each night to complete her day.

Thanks to Northwest Texas hospital SICU team for caring for her.

Family will receive family and friends from 6-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to High Plains Children’s Home, 11461 S Western, Amarillo, TX 79118.

  1. I Miss You Mom! I know you are sitting by Dad and the two of you are finally enjoying the peace and quiet as you hold hands. I have no regrets, I only hurt because I loved you both so Big and now the hurt is Big!

      Thank You so much for your kind words and your prayers!!
      Mom was a good cook, sometimes to good according to the scales!
      This was hard, however for me Lupe (Victor’s wife), has been the big shoulders to dry my tears. Thanks to your family for caring and for sharing Lupe with us!
      Keep us in your prayers knowing grieving comes in waves.

  3. Loran and I send our sympathies for your loss of Betty. She was a very special Christian lady. We have good memories of spending time at the Hamner house when all of our kids were young(and so were we all). GOD bless all of you during this time of saying goodby.

      Mom loved your entire family and just wanted to keep ya’ll for her own.
      I remember canning, baking, vacations, watching Loran jump across Mom’s dining room table, Mary carrying those precious babies. I think we all felt you guys were our family.
      She was proud of you two and your Kiddos!

  5. Never met a more loving person then Betty she cared for everyone she came in touch with especially myself my wife and our children they made a lasting impression on our lives and we will miss her.

  6. My sympathy is extended to each and every family member. Betty loved you so much. James and I spent some of the best years of our life with LG and Betty. They were really so special in every way. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. We can all be thankful for our special memories of Betty and how she lived her life on earth. Lynn
