Bobbie Clemmons Grubbs Alexander (age 96) of Amarillo, TX passed away on December 26, 2023.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 6:00 P.M. Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 29, 2023 at Southwest Church of Christ, Amarillo, TX with Adrian Morgan officiating.  Interment will precede the service at 10:00 A.M. at Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Bobbie was born on May 3, 1927 in Hazel, KY. After graduation from Buchanan H.S., she attended Murray State University graduating with a B.A.  Bobbie then accepted a teaching job in Leachville, AR where she met her husband, Vernon Oakley Alexander in 1948.  Bobbie was hired to take Vernon’s job as the girls’ basketball coach.

Despite Vernon’s frustration with losing his coaching job, they married a year later in 1949.  They moved to Nashville, TN in 1950 where they both attained Masters Degrees from Peabody College (now Vanderbilt University).

Vernon and Bobbie moved to San Jose, CA in 1958 where Bobbie spent 30 years teaching for the Santa Clara Unified School District.

Bobbie retired in 1987 and she and Vernon moved to Canyon and Amarillo to be near family.  She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ her entire life.  Bobbie and Vernon enjoyed years of travel to many places including Europe, the Middle East, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand as well as many Christian education conferences.

Bobbie was predeceased by her husband of 66 years Vernon Oakley Alexander, parents Alvie Lester and Eunice Francis Grogan Grubbs, brother Donnie B. Grubbs, and sister Francis Adeline Grubbs McCuiston.

She is survived by daughters Donnette Alexander of Lewisville, Texas and Teri Alexander Morgan (and husband, Jerry), of Amarillo, Texas, grandchildren Adrian Morgan of Amarillo, Kellen Morgan (and wife, Jordan), of San Antonio and Tandi Morgan Robison (and husband, Jordan), of Abilene and 9 great-grandchildren (Tripp Morgan, Graeme Morgan, Brandt Morgan, Amelia Morgan, Oakley Morgan, Josie Robison, Raef Robison, Lanie Robison and Remie Robison).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bobbie’s memory to either High Plains Children’s Home at 11461 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79118 or to the Alexander Family Scholarship for Education Majors at Harding University, ℅ Advancement Office, Box 12238, Searcy, AR 72149.
