Calvin Dale Roberts
Calvin Dale Roberts, 76, of Amarillo, Texas passed away at home on October 3, 2022. Dale managed his cancer with strength and grace fighting until the end.
Calvin Dale Roberts born on May 11, 1946, in Dallas, Texas to John and Laverne Roberts. Dale moved to Amarillo with his family when he was 9 years. He graduated from Tascosa High School and soon entered the US Army, November 1965. He was honorably discharged in November 1971. Dale was a proud veteran of the US Army. He didn’t go anywhere without his US Army cap.
Dale had a variety of occupations throughout his life. He loved people and saw serving other people as a privilege. When his father died, he stepped back from work to care for his mother for the remaining years of her life. After her death, he worked as a custodian at Lakeview Elementary School until he retired. Dale took great pride in caring for the school as a way to serve the teachers and the students.
In retirement, Dale lived a simple and content life making the most out of each day. He loved his family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren knew him as Daddy Dale. He remembered and marked every special occasion with a card and a little spending money. Dale made friends wherever he went. He loved his dogs Ranger, Elway and Butch. In his spare time, Dale loved to fish.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents John and Laverne Roberts and brother Mike Roberts.
He is survived by his son, Kevin Roberts and his wife Hollie; grandsons, Josh Roberts, and Will Roberts and his wife Alissa; great-grandson, Kason Roberts; great-granddaughters, Piper Roberts, Addison Roberts; sisters, Sandra Smith, and DeAnna Estes and her husband Jim; and many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
The family will hold a graveside funeral on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
The family ask that any donations made in Dale’s honor go to Amarillo Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Amarillo SPCA).
