Carol Richey, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2020.  A resident of Amarillo, TX for 66 years, she was born in San Angelo, TX, the first child of Orville Carl Schlinke and Ruth Noelke Schlinke.  She attended schools in San Angelo, graduated from Hockaday girls boarding school in Dallas and attended the University of Denver until 1946.  Her education was completed by graduating from the University of Texas, Austin in 1950.

She married Dr. William R. Richey on September 1, 1951.  They were married for 56 years.  She was preceded in death by her husband in 2007.

As a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo, Carol served in the choir, Sunday school, Presbyterian women’s organization, and as an elder.  She was a longtime driver for Meals on Wheels and volunteer at High Plains Baptist Hospital.  She was a member of the Panhandle District Dental Auxiliary and Chapter B, PEO.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Martin Brook White.

She is survived by her three children, Robert R. Richey and wife, Kim, of San Angelo, C Paige Gill and husband, Mark of Amarillo, TX, and Kay R. Newton and husband, Tommy, of Chattanooga, TN; 8 grandchildren, Casey and wife, Kristi, Travis, J’hon, and McKenna Gill, Alicia and husband, Shane Hatton, Lacie, Katie, and Nathan Newton; 9 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. O.C. Schlinke, Jr. and wife, Pat, of San Angelo.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 17, 2020, at Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

The family suggests memorials to Dr. W R and Carol Richey Scholarship Fund at Amarillo College.

  1. Carol was a lovely person. I never heard her say an unkind word in
    the many years I knew her. She loved working in her yard and taking care of her flowers. I will miss her.

  2. Carol was a sweet P.E.O. Sister. Kind, thoughtful, giving and loving are just a few of the things we all loved about Carol.

  3. Carol was a treasured member of Chapter B, P.E.O. for many years. She was one of the most gracious, humble, and welcoming women, and Chapter B was blessed to have her in the chapter. If you ever met her, you felt like a friend right away. She will be missed by all who knew her.
