Charles Samuel Morrison

Charles Samuel Morrison, 88, of Amarillo, TX died Sunday, May 3, 2020.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2020, for viewing prior to service at 2:00 p.m., at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Charles was born November 3, 1931, in Lakeview, TX to Elton and Anna Morrison.  He graduated from Memphis High School.  He served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict.

He married Mirtie Lee on January 21, 1977, in Lubbock, TX. Together they served as missionaries through Sojourners Church of Christ Mission for several years.

Charles worked as a mechanic for many years and retired from the City of Winnsboro, TX.

He was a member of Comanche Trail Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stan Morrison; and sister, Doris Gibson.

Survivors include his wife, Mirtie Morrison, of Amarillo, TX; sons, Brent Morrison, of Amarillo, TX, Vance Morrison and wife Greta, of Amarillo, TX, Scott Morrison, of Portales, NM, Kenny Hartman and wife Debra, of Amarillo, TX, and Michael Hartman and wife Melinda, of Lufkin, TX; daughter, Pamela Tooker and husband Kelly, of Hobbs, NM; daughter-in-law, Linda Morrison;  brother, Jimmy Morrison, of Amarillo, TX; sisters, Jane Taylor, of Childress, TX, and Marjorie Zinck and husband J.D., of Lubbock, TX; thirteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

  2. Vance, Greta, and Mirtie I am so sorry to hear of Charles’ passing. I know your sorrow and grief are great and the emptiness in your heart overwhelming, but at the same time you have the assurance of his place in heaven! What a joyful homecoming he is having! My prayer is for your sense of loss to be relieved. I still miss my mom.

  3. Mirtie and children, Charles worked in our garage in Happy, we knew his sons during your growing up. A finer man we never met.
    He brought laughter and kindness with him. Our Lord has wrapped his arms around him in welcome.

  8. Charles and Mirtie have been a favorite couple of mine since I’ve known them in the late 1970s! This is a bitter/sweet moment as I rejoice over Charles’ victory in Jesus while grieving with Mirtie and their children. May each of you know the peace of God our Father, the comfort of the Holy Spirit and the love of Jesus! “Well done good and faithful servant!”

  9. Charles was a great Christian example to me. He always displayed an attitude of love and joy. The legacy he left for myself was a close commitment to Jesus. His Christian walk, was as close as humans could walk, with grace of our Lord. He loved and spoke of Jesus in his actions, attitude, and words. Charles was a remarkable child of God.
    I will truly miss this wonderful man. I am happy for him to be in the arms if Jesus.

  10. Charles is a great man and Christian. Janie and my hearts hurt for Mirtie and their family, but a confident that Charles is with God right now. Thank you, Charles, for your wonderful example of faithfulness and happiness.
