On May 31, 2022, Charles William “Mac” McMenamy passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. It was the end of his 6-year battle with cancer and the end of a truly incredible journey. Mac was born in McKinney, Texas on June 26, 1935, and attended McKinney High School where he excelled in football, baseball, and basketball and was an all-state football player. He was a resident of Amarillo, Texas for the last 52 years. He graduated from the University of Texas School of Business in 1961 after serving 4 years in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. After earning his degree, he continued to serve his country as a federal agent for 30 years and later as a county judge. He is survived by his wife Shirley, sister Sandra, son Tim McMenamy and wife Drena, son Jeff McMenamy, daughter Dana Ogilvie and husband Rob, son Kirk Eaton and wife Kris, along with 22 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Willie Boy.

Mac found immense joy in his life in everything he did, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Mac and Shirley’s home was always the place to be for holiday celebrations and for Longhorn Football games. He loved working on cars, gardening, fixing things, and taking care of his animals at his country property affectionately known as “the compound”. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a strong, soft spoken man with a charitable heart and a soft spot for the underdog. His wife Shirley will remember him as a kind and loving gentleman who rarely angered and loved her beyond measure for over 47 years. Both Mac and Shirley overcame the sudden and tragic loss of their first spouse and were able to build a wonderful life together for themselves and their children. There is no doubt God played a role in bringing them together. His children will remember him as the kind of father every kid wants; a man of full of great wisdom and love, a man with strong yet gentle hands, and a man who earned their utmost respect through the example he lived every day. In a world in need of strong role models and leaders, Mac was the best of us. There were very few limits to his kindness and generosity. He made the world a much better place and he will be greatly missed.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 4, 2022, at St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to local charities Martha’s Home or Snack Pak 4 Kids.
