Chrystelle Donley (known to all as Mama D), 91, of Amarillo, TX passed away on February 9, 2022.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., February 12, 2022, at Llano Cemetery Pantheon Mausoleum Chapel with Lyndon Latham officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Chris was born in Lockney, TX on January 21, 1931, to H.F. and Aline Champion and the family moved to Amarillo when she was very young.  She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1949.

Throughout her working career she was employed at Service & Supply, Hedgecoke Properties, and lastly as a computer clerk at Russell & Shelton CPA firm.

Her favorite pastime was watching and playing with her many grandkids. As they got older, she attended each and every sporting event they participated in. She also enjoyed traveling to Groom, TX to play cards with friends.

Chris was a member of Anna Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnny; and her brother, Matt Champion.

She is survived by her three daughters, Sharon Ellis, Darla Whitecotton, and Gloria Schronce; her son, Scott Donley; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

  1. The Champions have been an important part of my life ever since I was a kid. Chrystelle’s father was one of the elders who ordained me to ministry, and a few years later he showed up at my front door in Phoenix, Arizona, asking me to take him on a tour of Christown Mall as he did his homework for building Western Plaza.

    I’m sorry I had to miss the funeral. Now that I’m an old man I don’t get out on ice and snow. But my heart was there.
