Clara

Bell Daniel, 93, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on December 10, 2022.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 14, 2022, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Josh Light officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo, Texas.

Clara was born in Hillsboro, Texas, on November 10, 1929, as the middle child and only daughter to Viola Mae Day and Fredrick Lincoln Bandy. Her father was a farmer and her mother was a homemaker. The family grew up poor and the children worked quite often in the cotton fields. They moved wherever the work was in Texas – Morton, Leia Lake, Friona, and then Amarillo.

Clara married Bob Horner at a young age and had a daughter, Linda Gayle. Linda was the center of her world and Clara became a single mother trying to make ends meet. She worked as a waitress at the Silver Grill in downtown Amarillo. It was there she met her second husband, Vernon Miller. Together they had five children – Steven, Paul, Arnold, Edwin, and Eileen. The family was raised in a restaurant, Bonanza Sirloin Pit, all working in whatever capacity was needed. Clara made pies for the restaurant and eventually worked in the kitchen and as a cashier. Vernon and Clara separated but she continued working there under new management. As a cashier, she met a customer that was a used car salesman. This man, Norman Daniel, helped her to afford a car and soon swept her off her feet and became her last husband.

Clara and Norman enjoyed traveling together, whether it be to the horse races or casinos or just to Hereford to pick up cars. They even entertained themselves with Bingo every once in a while. Clara loved her children and grandchildren, and they always came first. She established Sunday dinners at the house so family could be together, often including friends or extended family. She was a good cook! She supported her children, whether it was to meet a need for school or to attend sporting or musical events. She was always there. And she was an awesome grandmother! She and Norman loved helping raise grandsons, Zac and PJ, and also taking care of her other grandchildren when their moms and dads needed help. Clara was a hard worker. She loved to garden, sew, and cook…she was always busy.

In 2018 Clara moved to Landmark of Amarillo Nursing Facility after a few falls but the time spent there was still treasured. Oftentimes the family would still gather in the dining area or outside to have meals and spend time with her. She enjoyed family visits, sitting outside, and listening to music.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Norman Rex Daniel; daughter Linda Gayle Miller; two sons, Steven and Paul Miller; and her older brother, William “Bill” Bandy.

Survivors include two sons, Arnold Miller and wife, LaDonna, of Bartlesville, OK; Edwin Miller and wife, Tammy, of Bushland, TX; daughter Eileen Pulliam and husband, Ron, of Panhandle, TX; younger brother, Eugene Bandy and wife Patsy of Friona, TX; seven grandchildren, Nathan Miller and wife, Lisa, of Bartlesville, OK; Alexander “Zan” Miller of Oklahoma City, OK; Linda Ramirez and husband, Juan, and Zachary Miller and wife, MyKayla, all of Amarillo; PJ Miller of Canyon, TX; Benjamin Pulliam of Denton, TX, and MacKinzie Pulliam of Fitchburg, MA; three great-grandchildren, Jynsyn, Aceary, and little Edwin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
