Corene Sellers Tanner
Corene Sellers Tanner, 87, of Dumas, TX passed away December 20, 2023.
Visitation will be from 6-7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox. Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Boxwell Brothers Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas.
Corene was born on September 27, 1936 in Spur, Texas. She married William Allen Tanner on May 3rd 1952. They were married for 67 years. They had 4 children, Carolyn, Greg, Darin and Deena. They lived a beautiful life. They loved their church. They were one of the first young couples who founded the Temple Baptist Church here in Dumas. They loved their Sunday school group, and they enjoyed many memories of serving the Lord with others in their church group.
Bill and Corene enjoyed camping whether it was with friends, family or their grandchildren. Her most beloved treasure in life was her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She especially enjoyed playing Skip-Bo with friends and family and she never took it easy when it came to winning. She never minded beating her kids and grandkids in a good, heated game of Skip-Bo!
She lost her son Darin in 2015 and Bill in 2018. It was some of the darkest days of her life. Corene was strong and persevered through the darkest of days with a sweet and kind spirit. Even into her last days she was smiling and never wanted to burden a soul. We all loved her so dearly and will hold close all the wonderful memories and times shared together as a family.
Corene is preceded in death by her parents, Hardy Mason Sellers and Parlie Sellers Brown; husband, William Allen Tanner; son, Darin Tanner; sister, Maudine Jordan; brothers, W.D. Sellers, Billy Sellers, and Bobby Sellers; and a grandson, Bradley B.J. Bilbrey.
Corene is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Tanner of Amarillo, TX and Deena Sims and husband Walt of Amarillo, TX; son, Greg Tanner and wife Myra of Dumas, TX; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Tanner of Stinnett, TX; sisters, Peggy Kelly and husband Randy of Sylvester, TX and Debble Vahlenkamp and husband Doug of Old Glory, TX; 7 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
