Damon Matthew Whaley, 39, of Dalhart, Texas passed away on April 22, 2022.

Services will be at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Dalhart, Texas with Robert Ledbetter and Dean Whaley officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at Palo Duro Cemetery in Wildorado, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Damon Matthew Whaley was born to Dean and Debbie Whaley on August 18, 1982, in Ada, Oklahoma. He attended school in Pampa, Texas, Las Vegas, Nevada and Dalhart, Texas where he formed lasting friendships. Shortly after high school, Damon got a taste of the entertainment business and traveled around the United States with a well-known Christian entertainer. It didn’t take long for Damon to become the star and he began performing on his own and produced his first CD. Most people are familiar with Damon by his many impressions or charismatic performance of Great Balls of Fire. In his late 20’s, Damon decided he needed to grow up and get a “real” job and went into the IT business. He worked for Coon Memorial Hospital for twelve years and has been the IT Manager for JBS for over three years. But Damon never gave up his passion for life. He was an avid collector and could always find a hidden gem when everyone else would see junk. His musical talents continued as he played in various bands, but he has always stolen the show with his incredible piano skills and larger than life personality. He was a loyal son and brother and was always there to help in any capacity.

A while back, Damon was fortunate enough to meet the love of his life, Jennifer Wheaton. He had plans to marry her and be a stepfather to her three sons, Keelan, Lane, and Ryder. People who know him well say that this was the happiest they’ve seen him.

Damon was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dean and Margaret Whaley, Juanita Grantham and Frank Balko. He is survived by his parents, Dean and Debbie Whaley; a brother, Dustin Whaley; a sister, Dionne Whaley Lott; a niece, Karson Lott; a nephew, Keller Lott; and a host of relatives and friends.

In Damon’s brief 39 years, he LIVED life. If he pursued something, he gave it everything he had. He loved all people, young and old. He always had a joke, a funny story, or an impression to brighten your day. To know Damon is to love him. We lost one of the brightest lights to ever walk among us the day God took him home. Damon, life will never be the same without you.

Viewing will be available from Noon – 8:00 P.M., Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Amarillo, 2800 Paramount Blvd., and from Noon – 6:00 P.M., Monday, April 25, 2022, at Horizon Funeral Home in Dalhart, 701 Elm Ave.

  10. I first met Damon over a old cigar sign I had , it was a cool piece that got from a salvage job in Whiting Ia it had been shot up and weathered but that even made it even more desirable to Damon . He hounded me for at least 3 yrs about that sign ! Then he invited me to his place and as soon as I saw his passion , sold him the sign ! For I knew it was going to a very good home and the story behind it would be told ! Then after he met Jennifer he would visit the bowling alley regularly, then he started to bowl on leagues ! He was so funny to watch . He enjoyed everything he did ! He was so in love with Jennifer! Weeks ago at leagues he showed me the ring he was going to give her . He was just bursting with joy !! I’m so sorry for your loss!! Damon could brighten any room he walked into ! We will all miss him!!

  35. Damon,
What an amazing human being you were. You were there for everyone else anytime they needed anything. You made everyone laugh with your charismatic self all around. You hold many memories in my mind but my fondest is sitting around the piano and writing a song with you Briana and Katie for our Sr. Class. We laughed as we tried to find the words to describe the years we spent together. Your talent forever amazes me and to know you and be blessed enough to share that special moment with you will forever touch my heart. Shine on and rock on in Heaven until we meet again, keep that piano seat warm until I get there to sing with you again. Love you friend.
