Daniel Ray Carter, 70, of Amarillo, TX passed away on March 7, 2021.

Services will be at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, March 11, 2021, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Daniel was born in Miles City, MT on December 2, 1950, to Lloyd and Betty Carter.

Daniel was a hardworking family man.  He worked in the oil field for 40 years, the last 25 was spent with Devon Energy as a production foreman.  Dan loves traveling and camping with his family all over the United States and sometimes Canada.  Dan was a man of many hobbies, hunting, shooting, gun collecting, golfing and supposedly square dancing at one point.  The last few years his favorite hobby was spending time with his granddaughters.

Dan was a Boy Scout Leader for 12 years and one of his proudest moments was helping Russell earn his Eagle Scout and many pinewood derby championships.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Betty Carter, of Montana.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Carter, of Amarillo; sons, Russell Carter and his wife Meredith, of Meredith, and Kenny Harris, of Lubbock; daughter, Amanda Harris and wife Christina, of Amarillo; three beautiful granddaughters, Caroline, Emmylou and Eleanor; his brothers and sisters, David and Carmella Carter, of Texas, Dwayne Carter and Dorene Keys, of Arizona, Donny and Evelyn Carter, of Wyoming, Carol and Bill Worman, of Montana, Clifford and Sue Carter, of Texas, Craig and Shan Carter, of Texas, Patty and Art Quiroz, of Montana, Jerry Rogers and Courtnee Fontenot, of Texas, and Suzanne and Bob Robinson, of Texas; honorary daughter, Sandy Russell, of Amarillo; honorary grandkids, Dylan and Katie Conley, and Emily and Brandon Russell; and 2 granddogs, Salem and Blue.

  1. My condolences to the Carter family I knew Dan through working for Halliburton for 38 years I worked with Dan the 25 years he was with Devon we had some great times together I really enjoyed the pig hunting trip we took a few years ago he was a great man RIP

  6. I will always remember Dan as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family. I will be lifting the family up in prayer tomorrow as you celebrate Dan’s life. He will be missed.

  9. I did not know Dan personally except through his wife, Carol. She spoke quite often of him in loving words. I’m so happy that the move to Amarillo was made before this sad time. Carol, you are in my thoughts and prayers. God will see you through this difficult time and the hurt will still be there, but will soften. I love you.
