David Wayne Fry, 75, of Amarillo, TX passed away on May 3rd, 2022.
The family will host a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7th, 2022, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Amarillo TX.
David was born on January 14th, 1947, in Corpus Christi, TX.
A life-long Texan, David graduated from Lockhart High school in 1965, attended Southwest Texas State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1969 and West Texas State University where he earned his Master of Education in 1985. During his thirty plus years in education, “Mr. Fry” touched the lives of thousands of 7th grade students at Dumas Junior High School and Amarillo’s Bowie Middle School. Often remembered for his love of Texas History and playful sense of humor, Mr. Fry also hosted annual student trips to Washington DC during the 80’s. Each year students tended to collect a particular souvenir, so Mr. Fry often found himself returning to Texas carrying 20 or so whoopie cushions, antennae boppers, or pillows of shredded money. And if you were one of the kids who collected metal handcuffs from the FBI giftshop, we can guarantee Mr. Fry blames you for the scare he gave his luggage screeners.
David also enjoyed camping and fishing in northern New Mexico, umpiring Little League ball in Dumas, and mentoring Boy Scouts in Dumas and Amarillo. He was a founding member of the Texas Intertribal Indian Organization just prior to his retirement from teaching, and he was an active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church just prior to his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Lawrence Fry and Catherine Neely Fry.
David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beverly Joy Brinson Fry of Amarillo TX, brother Lawrence “Larry” Fry of Huntsville AL, sister Christina “Tina” Peterson of Houston TX, sister Rebecca “Becky” Fry of Dallas TX, son Daniel Aaron Fry of Laguna NM, daughter Raegan Deanne Fry King of Waco TX, and four grandchildren Kaweshchima Fry, Maityaitsa Fry, Lauren King, and Evan King.
